Angelina Jolie is officially joining Twitter, Us Magazine reported. However, fans have to wait a little longer to read messages posted on the account because the 35-year-old actress has locked her Twitter page and might start tweeting later this year.

On why Jolie, who has no followers and is not following anyone yet, protected her account, a source told the site, “Jolie had her people obtain the account for her so no one else could have that username.” The source further said, “There was actually someone else using @AngelinaJolie but Angelina requested the account suspended and took it over.”

The insider then mentioned that Jolie might only be active on the micro blogging site “later this year.” Though so, fans should not expect the girlfriend of to dish out about her six children and romance life with the actor as the insider stated, “If she uses it, it will be for charity-related items or sharing links.”

Amanda Bynes announced over Twitter that she is quitting acting forever.

@chicky "I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first I've retired"

Article Source: Vancouver Sun

After three television series, headlining several movies and becoming a millionaire, Amanda Bynes has announced she’s quitting acting forever.

The 24-year-old made the shocking revelation on the Twitter account over the weekend, citing a disinterest in acting as the impetus behind the decision.

“Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem,” she wrote. “If I don’t love something anymore, I stop doing it. I don’t love acting anymore, so I’ve stopped doing it.”

Fans of Bynes will note that she hasn’t starred in any feature films since 2007’s Hairspray and Sydney White.

Although Bynes found success in a string of teen comedies, including She’s the Man and What a Girl Wants, the actress told her Twitter followers that she got frustrated with having no control over the content of her work.

“I’ve never written the movies and TV shows I’ve been a part of,” she wrote. “I’ve only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play.”

Bynes has been in show business since she was ten years old, when she was cast on the Nickelodeon sketch show All That. It wasn’t long before she was given her own series, The Amanda Show, which led to films and a starring role on the sitcom What I Like About You, co-starring Jennie Garth.

Despite the announcement, Bynes will still appear as a conservative teenager in this fall’s release of Easy A, a modern adaptation of The Scarlet Letter.

Baby-faced teen idol Justin Bieber has a devoted fan base on Twitter.

Justin Bieber

Twitter appears to have lost its Bieber fever.

Frequent users of the social networking site may have noticed that teen idol Justin Bieber has disappeared from the list of trending topics. The 16-year-old singing sensation was a remarkably constant presence on the list of most-mentioned words, phrases and tags due to his fans’ frequent posts about him.

But due to recent tweaks to the site’s algorithm, Bieber will likely be a mainstay no more.

Trending topics will now focus on topics that are experiencing sudden spikes in popularity, rather than consistently talked-about subjects, the site says.

“The new algorithm identifies topics that are immediately popular, rather than topics that have been popular for a while or on a daily basis, to help people discover the ‘most breaking’ breaking news from across the world,” Twitter explains in a May 14 post in its Help section. “We think that trending topics which capture the hottest emerging trends and topics of discussion on Twitter are the most interesting.”

The algorithm is “very much a work in progress,” Twitter said, adding that the site does not “block” any topics from trending.

So take heart Bieber fans, your idol will likely rise again – but only when the chatter reaches fever pitch.

American Idol

American Idol

For the first time ever, Season Nine of American Idol allowed each of the Top 24 semifinalists to run his or her own Twitter and Facebook page. But on Wednesday, that all came to an end. On each singer’s Twitter account is a message, posted March 3, that reads: “Thanks so much for following me! All my updates from now on will be on our Official AI9 Twitter Page, please follow me there @AI9Contestants.” Likewise, each contestant’s Facebook account will soon be consolidated into one AI9 Contestants fan page. A spokesperson for Fox confirmed to EW that each singer’s individual account would be disappearing in the near future.

So what happened? According to a source close to the show, the switch to group accounts was made because it was impossible to disable the feature on Facebook and Twitter that showed how many “fans” or “followers” each contestant had. And in case you were wondering, Andrew Garcia was way out in front when it came to Twitter “followers.” At last count, he had 12,511 people following his tweets. Only time will tell whether that statistic means anything.

Tila Tequila

MySpace was good—too good, in hindsight—to Tila Tequila. Twitter wasn’t. So earlier this morning, she quit.

Now how are we supposed to know when Tila’s claiming to be pregnant, calling out potential baby daddies, posting her cell phone number, adopting Haitian babies, announcing that she’s put herself on suicide watch, mourning the loss of her fiancée or otherwise exploiting her caps lock button?

“Fans are saying #TilaDontLeave I’m sorry but I have to go my loves,” read her last series of tweets. “A baby is on the way…..Deleting my page in 3, 2……..

“Andddddd 1……..#TilaDontLeave but I’m out! Had lots of fun with you all and Love you, miss you but maybe I’ll sign up again 1 day..bye”

True to her word (for maybe the first time ever), Tequila’s Twitter account has been shut down.

“I love you all and will miss you here on Twitter! We have had our fun times together, but my Time on Twitter has run it’s course! Deleting.”

Deleting, but in her own sweet time, as nine more tweets were posted before her final good-bye.

“GOODBYE TWITTER!!! I WILL MISS YOU ALL! ACTUALLY AFTER THIS TWEET I WILL GIVE YOU 15 MORE MINUTES THEN I WILL DELETE MY PAGE NOW!”

Still, should anyone out there be curious as to the goings-on in Tila’s life, she’s left her forwarding information—her official blog, Tila’s Hot Spot, on which she’s already posted two journal messages today.

And in case anyone wanted the inside track as to why Tequila shut down her Twitter account, here it is: “Cuz Piggy face Perez is on there and he’s so fat and ugly and I just felt disgusted being on the same community with him.”

The pot then referred to the kettle as a “waste of space” and announced plans to launch her own celebrity gossip blog—TilaTequilaOMG.com—in about three weeks’ time.

Apparently, there’s about to be a gap in the market.

“PIGGY PEREZ IS SO JEALOUS OF ME!…HE KNOWS THAT MY BLOG WILL BLOW HIS S—TY BLOG OUT OF THE WATER!!!

Last we checked, Perez was still publishing. And the Twitterverse was humming along without a certain someone.

Microsoft founder and philanthropist-at-large Bill Gates has joined Twitter (@billgates) and is rapidly gaining followers. And after ditching Facebook because “it was way too much trouble”, Gates is back on Facebook with a new page. Bill GatesMicrosoft

Gates’ first Twitter update used the classic programmers opener “Hello world” before he tweeted a series of tweets on the crisis in Haiti. He then praised American TV host Ryan Seacrest and responded to Twitter obsessive Ashton Kutcher.

Doubt that it’s really Bill Gates tapping out tweets? Twitter has verified the account and Twitter employee Caroline Mizumoto (@caroline) has also confirmed that it’s really the Microsoft man. Oddly, Gates is currently using the web interface.

Gates’ return to Facebook has also been confirmed as the real deal. So far he’s shared links to his charitable foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and rather tediously, Microsoft.com. His shared photos include albums from trips to Africa and India.

You can follow Bill Gates on Twitter now and sign up to his Facebook page, just don’t expect him to send you an @reply or be interested in playing Mafia Wars…

P.E.I. Senator Mike Duffy wants an impostor posing as him removed from Twitter.

Sun Media is reporting the senator has asked the information technology staff on Parliament Hill to find a way to halt the parody Twitter account. Duffy said he does not have Facebook or Twitter accounts.

Past posts on the senatorduffy account, which started Sept. 10, include “reading is for losers” and “craving onion rings.”

Since efforts to remove it started being reported, the account has changed to look more like a parody. Thursday morning that included a picture of Duffy with a fake moustache and a background photo of cascading hamburgers.

The bio also now reads “Canada’s egregious Senator. Unplugged. Parody’d.”

Twitter will usually only delete fake accounts if there is no way to tell they are a parody.

Early Thursday morning the senatorduffy account had 292 followers.
